I am stepping into a life long journey of Natural Living. I will take my family along for the ride and take as many notes as I can. I know I won't always get it right, I know I will just have to keep trying. If my stumbles can aid one person into a natural life, that will be the frosting on my cake. The cake will be a healthier family for me.

Easy Homemade Applesauce

So, I found out how incredibly easy it is to make Applesauce!

8 apples (I prefer whichever is cheaper, keeping in mind if you pick sour ones you will need to either add sugar or put in 4 sweet ones to 4 sour. This week Fareway has 4 varieties for sale $.68/lb. I will be out there tomorrow!)
1 cup of water (I start out with one and add a cup as I need it. I just don't want it to dry out and burn. Most of the time I end up using 2 to 3 cups, so apples are juicer)
You will want to peel, core and cut the apples into small bites. I believe the smaller the pieces to more quickly it gets done. Boil until mushy. I go between medium to high (only because I get impatient). This is the part that takes the LONGEST! (well, the cooling too) Then since my family prefers the store bought texture, I dump the contents of the pot (CAREFUL its hot, I have found it is a 2 person kind of job) into my blender and pulse a few times until I get the texture I want. Finally, I pour the applesauce into 2 canning jars (still hot, so it will vacuum seal itself) and place them into the fridge until cool.

And Poof! What has cost me nearly $2.00 in the store, might cost $1.00 (very Rough math, sorry!), but it isn't the savings that gets me, its that I know exactly what is in the jar when I am done. Apples and a little water; and once I have my own fruit producing apple trees, it will be even better!
